Defense defeats offense in KSU Spring Game
The Kennesaw State football team held their annual spring game at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Friday night, and the defense (who wore black jerseys) defeated the offense (who wore the gold jerseys) 53-40. Head coach Brian Bohannon had an unique way of keeping up with the score to make it as even as possible. Here’s a look at the scoring system.

After the game, Boahnnon was pleased with the way the defense looked on Friday night and throughout spring practice. As for the offense, Bohannon knows there’s a lot of work to be done on that side of the ball.
“I didn’t think the offense came out to play, especially the offensive line,” Bohannon said. “It’s going to be a long night.”
The offense could never get into a rhythm. They allowed six sacks and the run game never got going, averaging 2.7 yards per rush.
“There wasn’t much energy on that offensive sideline in the first half.” Bohannon said.
If there was one offensive player who stood out, it would be fullback Bronson Rechsteiner who rushed for 74 yards on 14 carries. Rechsteiner was a linebacker last year and Boahnnon has been impressed his transistion this spring.
“He’s done some good things,” Bohannon said. “He’s gotta learn to play without the ball, he’s gotta learn to play more than three snaps in a row and he has a chance to be a difference maker on offense.”
There were a number of players that stood out on defense, but the one player that probably made the biggest impact was freshman linebacker Bryson Armstrong. The Marietta native led the defense with 11 tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack on Friday night.
“He shows up everyday and comes to work regardless of the circumstances,” Bohannon said. “If we could get a bunch of kids that show up everyday like he does, we’d be pretty good.”
Overall, Bohannon felt the team made progress this spring and he was happy to get younger players reps. He was also happy with the turnout as over 2,200 fans supported the Owls at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
“I thought it was a great crowd tonight and I wanted to thank our fans for coming out to support us,”Bohannon said. “The defense won tonight because they made less mistakes than the offense did. We got some quality reps tonight out of some young guys and saw some improvements over the night.”
