Owls Announce Additions to Football Broadcast Crews
KENNESAW, Ga. – Nathan McCreary, who has held a variety of broadcasting roles for Kennesaw State Athletics, will serve as sideline reporter for the Owls on ESPN Radio 106.7FM and 1230AM The Fan 2 this season. Chris Mooneyham and Brandon Joseph will also join the Owls’ football broadcast teams, which were announced Monday.
McCreary fills the position held by Art Eckman — an icon among Atlanta sports broadcasters — who has retired after two years handling the radio sideline reporting for the Owls. Eckman’s career in broadcasting spanned three decades, and included stints at ESPN, the NBA, NFL, MLB, and locally at WXIA-TV. He had also served KSU Athletics in multiple public relations roles.
McCreary completes the radio broadcast team, which features play-by-play voice Brian Giffin and analyst Tutan Reyes. Reyes, an eight-year NFL pro that won an NFC Championship with the Carolina Panthers in 2005, and Giffin have held their positions since the football program’s inaugural season of 2015.
Every game of the 2017 season can be heard exclusively on the Radio Home of the Owls, ESPN Radio 106.7FM and 1230AM The Fan 2 in Atlanta, with a 30-minute pregame show preceding each game.
On television, the Owls will have three games produced by the Owl Network that air locally on Peachtree TV – Sept. 9 vs. Tennessee Tech, Sept. 30 vs. North Greenville and Oct. 7 vs. Texas Southern. Three other road games not produced by KSU will also air on Peachtree TV — Aug. 31 at Samford, Oct. 28 at Presbyterian and Nov. 4 at Montana State.
Brian Katrek will handle TV play-by-play duties for the second straight season, while 680 The Fan’s Chris Mooneyham joins the broadcast crew as the sideline reporter. Mooneyham replaces McCreary, who moved to the radio team. Reyes will move to the TV booth as the analyst for those three games. Another 680 The Fan staffer, Brandon Joseph, will join Giffin and McCreary on radio as analyst to fill-in for Reyes.
McCreary graduated from Kennesaw State in 2006 with a communications degree and wrote for The Sentinel as a student. He has spent nearly 20 years in radio and television broadcasting, including the last 12 calling soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball for the Owls on ESPN3 and ASUN TV.
Mooneyham also holds a communications degree from Kennesaw State and called KSU baseball games on the radio as a student. He has worked full-time at 680 The Fan since 2014, co-hosting the network’s NFL Gameday and College Gameday programs, while guest anchoring on a number of daily shows.
Joseph is also a reporter and producer for 680 The Fan who worked for the Owl Network last season calling basketball and baseball games on ESPN3. Joseph, who graduated from Chattahoochee Technical College in 2010, has worked full-time at 680 The Fan since 2012.
The Owls open the 2017 season on Thursday, Aug. 31 at Samford. You can hear the game live on ESPN Radio 106.FM and 1230AM The Fan 2. It will be shown live locally on Peachtree TV and nationally on ESPN3.
